The Plan

Clark County, the most populous county in Nevada has an estimated population of 2.3 million people. Clark County is home to some of the most diverse communities and neighborhoods in the United States.

Spring Valley is also home to Clark County’s Chinatown, an area of the city inspired by a rich Asian American culture and just two miles west of the World-Famous Las Vegas Strip. In September 2022 Wallethub.com ranked Spring Valley the 5th most culturally diverse community in the nation.

Chinatown Las Vegas began its journey as an Asian cultural hub in the mid-90s with the development of the Chinatown Plaza shopping center. Clark County designated Chinatown Plaza as the Asian Pacific American Cultural Center on May 7, 1996, the first official recognition of the new district.

Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn officially designated the 3 mi long (4.8 km) district along Spring Mountain from Las Vegas Boulevard to Rainbow Boulevard as “Chinatown” in October 1999 and it continues to grow as the Asian population in Las Vegas expands rapidly.

After the opening of Chinatown Plaza, the corridor has slowly transformed and integrated a variety of other Asian cultural restaurants and community events such as Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, and more. Spring Mountain is not only popular with locals but is also a go-to location for dining and entertainment for international visitors.

The Spring Mountain Corridor Redevelopment Plan will create a foundation and a vision for a neighborhood that is focused on cultural appreciation while supporting small businesses, increasing walkability, and attracting mixed-use development and thoughtful investment.

The plan's goal is to create a community-driven redevelopment plan that continues to celebrate the Asian heritage while advocating for revitalization of the area into a dynamic, vibrant, and inclusive neighborhood complete with considerations for residential (existing and new), commercial, recreational, entertainment, and transit-oriented development, as well as spaces for community gathering, art and cultural attractions, and social amenities.

The plan will respect, protect, and support all those currently owning small businesses and light industries within the Corridor, including those working and residing within the plan’s boundaries. In addition, the plan aims to create job opportunities and support local entrepreneurship and innovation.

The redevelopment plan will foster a mix of uses, create a sense of place, and identify strategies that support a strong and diverse economy.
